Israel exports many talents to the world, in film, theater, music and art. One prominent exported talent is in the field of sport and his name is Avram (Abraham) Grant.

Avram Grant is an Israeli soccer trainer. He was born in Petah Tikva, the first son of Holocaust survivor Meir Grant. Young Avram spent most of his childhood playing soccer and adored the British soccer teams.

When he was 18 years old he was appointed to be the trainer of the young league in Hapoel Petah Tikva. Later on he trained the entire team.

Then he moved to train the elite teams of Israeli soccer: Maccabi Haifa and Maccabi Tel Aviv, and promoted young, unknown players who would later become the most famous players in Israel.

In 2004 Grant began training the ultimate soccer team in Israel – the National soccer team. The preliminaries of the World Cup 2006 were amazing, although he didn't get to the finals.

On June 2006 he moved to his biggest achievement yet when he became the technical manager of the English Portsmouth team and a year later moved to manage the top of the English soccer – the Chelsea Football Club.

On October 2009 Grant returned to Portsmouth.

Grant is married and has 2 children.

The Holocaust Remembrance Day and all that’s connected to it mean a lot to Grant because his father was a Holocaust survivor. In one of the games in England, in which his father was present, Grant heard anti-Semitic shouts from the crowd. On another occasion, during a game against Liverpool, which took place on the Holocaust Remembrance Day, Grant was seen wearing a black ribbon with the yellow star that the Jews were forced to wear in Europe, an act which received a lot of respect here in Israel.
